FINANCING YOUR WHEELCHAIR
We do understand that the cost of an powered wheelchair can be an essential factor to consider, and the possibilities are often different depending on your personal circumstances. To guide you through the first step, we have listed the most common options here.
Prescription
In certain cases, individuals can seek assistance from local authorities or relevant healthcare agencies to obtain a prescription for an powered wheelchair. Typically, an occupational therapist assesses eligibility for receiving an powered wheelchair based on individual 'needs' and, in some cases, prior receipt of assistive devices. However, it's important to note that there can be significant regional variations in this process based on your location.
The procedure generally begins with a discussion with a medical professional, who may refer the individual to an occupational therapist or a physiotherapist. Following the assessment, the healthcare provider prescribes an powered wheelchair, which is then evaluated at a regional assistive device center.
Purchasing Independently
If, for any reason, the occupational therapist does not approve an powered wheelchair, it is still possible to independently purchase one. The most common approach is to visit an assistive device store in your local area. Alternatively, if there is no dealer available in your region, you are always welcome to contact Eloflex for assistance.
Applying for funds
Sometimes you may need some financial help to buy the powered wheelchair you want and need. Some retailes may offer instalment payments, but another potentially beneficial choice (if you have some time) is to explore the possibility of obtaining financial support from one of the numerous available funds dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
